Sam Fender shares cover of Rolling Stones' 'You Can't Always Get What You Want'
Tickets for Fender's Proper Massive Stadium Tour '27 went on sale last Friday, with eight dates, including Dublin's Marlay Park, sold out.
English singer-songwriter Sam Fender has shared a cover of The Rolling Stones' 'You Can't Always Get What You Want'.
Self-produced alongside his bandmates Joe Atkinson and Dean Thompson, the song was recorded in Tyneside and features the choir from the John Spence Community High School in North Shields, where Fender formerly attended, and brass from the Easington Colliery Band.
"It was a privilege to rework such an iconic song by such a legendary band," said Fender. "In the spirit of Christmas, we re-recorded the children’s choir with the kids from my old school, John Spence Community High School, and we arranged a brass section with the Easington Colliery Band.”
The Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger also added:
"I'm a fan of Sam's work, so I was pleased to hear he was covering one of my songs. I think he's done a great job with it."
Fender and Polydor Records will be donating 100% of the total profits received from sales in the UK of the CD and 7" single sold via their online store to Teenage Cancer Trust.
Tickets for Fender's Proper Massive Stadium Tour '27 went on sale last Friday, with eight dates, including Dublin's Marlay Park, selling out in under an hour to over 600,000 fans.
He will stop in Dublin on July 1, before his first European festival headline slot at next summer's Rock Werchter in Belgium on July 3.
Last year, Fender released his third album, People Watching, which won the 2025 Mercury Prize. He also picked up his third BRIT Award the same year and, in 2026, won his second Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year.
He debuted People Watching's 'Rein Me In' alongside Olivia Dean at his London Stadium Show in June 2025. This year, the song became the longest running No. 1 single in British history and topped the charts in Ireland for 18 weeks, equalling the Irish chart record.
