Roger Waters shares The Dark Side Of The Moon rework snippet
The Dark Side of the Moon is considered Pink Floyd's most successful album and is known for its progressive rock music and use of analogue synthesizers.
Former Pink Floyd member, Roger Waters shared a snippet of his upcoming The Dark Side of The Moon rework. The English alt-rock band's famous eighth studio album had its 50th anniversary on 1st March. By using genre-defining analogue synthesizers, the band created a distinct sound for the album.
In the 52-second clip Waters shared on YouTube, the former Pink Floyd member can be seen listening to the first verse of the reworked track 'Us and Them'. The video is captioned with a statement by Waters, acknowledging that "it's not a replacement for the original, which, obviously, is irreplaceable."
Watch the snippet below:
The statement continues: "It is a way for the seventy nine year old man to look back across the intervening fifty years into the eyes of the twenty nine year old and say, to quote a poem of mine about my Father, "We did our best, we kept his trust, our Dad would have been proud of us." And also it is a way for me to honor a recording that Nick and Rick and Dave and I have every right to be very proud of."
"We are now in the process of finishing the final mix. It's turned out really great, and I'm excited for everyone to hear it," Waters states, while also mentioning that a rework could be a good chance to "re-address the political and emotional message of the whole album."
Waters predicts a backlash against the project due to his strained relationship with his former Pink Floyd bandmates since his departure in 1985. In an interview with The Telegraph, he said: "I wrote The Dark Side of the Moon. Let’s get rid of all this ‘we’ crap! Of course we were a band, there were four of us, we all contributed, but it’s my project, and I wrote it. So… blah!"
A special anniversary edition of The Dark Side of the Moon was announced by Pink Floyd in January 2023. It is due for release on March 24th and will include a live recording of the band‘s 1974 Wembley Stadium concert.
Available within Pink Floyd's The Dark Side Of The Moon 50th Anniversary Box Set announced yesterday, and also released separately on the same day as the Box Set (March 24th), is the Live At Wembley 1974 LP and CD. Pre-order here: https://t.co/lFdPwpHQkw pic.twitter.com/ThdtFeoHQb

Last week, it was revealed that Waters' May 28th gig in Frankfurt, Germany, had been cancelled due to his views on Israel. Frankfurt‘s city council called Waters "one of the world‘s most widely-known antisemites".
Waters commented on the cancellation by posting a TikTok video of US-Palestinian journalist Ramzy Baroud, who defended the musician as an "anti-racist".
