Rita Perry announces launch show for debut EP Kill Your Darlings at the Cobblestone
A singer and multi-instrumentalist, Perry explores her Irish-Catalan heritage in her music.
Rita Perry will be launching her debut EP, Kill Your Darlings, at the Cobblestone Pub on Sunday, November 15. Ryan Hargadon, known for collaborating with Rachael Lavelle, Anna Mieke, and Kojaque, will be supporting her.
Perry mixes English and Catalan in her songs, which were created between her childhood home of Cavan and her birthplace, Barcelona. Her EP, which she wrote, performed, and produced herself, has been said to explore memory, identity, and place.
Her father, Robbie Perry, played drums and uilleann pipes for Dead Can Dance, while her uncle Brendan was the lead singer. Her Catalan mother works in the film industry.
"The question of authenticity and belonging are things I’ll always question as I go through life", Perry said in a recent interview with Hot Press.
"By this point, I’ve come to realise the world is big enough, and my heart is big enough, to be from two different places, and I would hope that doesn’t make me less of anything. But it’s a very interesting experience!"
She is also playing at Wexford's Let the People Sing on November 14.
Tickets to the Cobblestone gig are available here.
