The kudos and the €250 prize have gone to the People's Republic.
Colin Aherne, a County Cork native and 1st year photography student, has been announced as the winner of the Sea Sessions Extreme Photography competition organised in conjunction with Relentless Energy Drink.
“The picture was taken in Helsinki during a BMX competition,” Colin explains. “I was over there for a few days on a trip and was lucky enough to come across the competition and take some pictures. To me the picture means ‘just go for it’.”
The competition, which had the brief “no half measures”, was judged by world-renowned surf photographer and filmmaker Mickey Smith.
“We were blown away by the high standard of all the entrants, there were some really stunning images,” Smith enthuses. “The reason Colin’s stood out is because it’s dynamic, full of energy and it tells the story of this kid giving everything he’s got to achieve his goals.”
