Irish artist Rachael Lavelle has announced her debut album Big Dreams, due 10 November.
Accompanying the announcement is the project’s title track and music video (directed by Bob Gallagher), along with a string of live dates in Ireland.
“Big Dreams is an existential ballad; a meditation on love, expectations, failure and the passing of time”, says Lavelle on her new single.
“When I wrote the melody, it was as if someone was dying. I was thinking about how, when you die, you experience a flashback of your life.I was inspired by this idea. That despite all the stress and attempts at success, to live is to be open to the possibilities of life and connection.”
The song also features the voice of the Luas- Doireann Ní Bhriain, who narrates an “inner monologue of the millennial mind; the ever-wondering-ever- doubting, the contradicting and the aspiring, concluding: I am open to the possibilities.”
The album promises to be an existential coming of age story, chronicling the journey of a young woman searching for direction and meaning. Lavelle takes inspiration from everyday life, and YouTube self-help videos, to explore romance, ambition and a lack of direction felt by many a digital native.
Written and produced by Lavelle, Big Dreams was created alongside co-producer Ryan Hargadon and engineer and co-producer Alex Borwick.
The album is available to pre-order via Bandcamp here https://rachaellavelle.bandcamp.com/
