So just like that it's the last weekend of summer. We refuse to accept that fact that it's the end of the season already, given there's still the Electric Picnic to come this weekend. And we want SUN for that. Oh yes.
Now cast your mind back to the quizzical look you had last week when faced with the lyrics teaser, and adopt it again:
"I'm not really sure of all this pressure,
I'm never going to lose any of my old letters
They'll stay with me, until I can see,
Until I can see that I'm no-one"
That was of course from the excellently-titled 'When I Argue I See Shapes' from Idlewild, who played a storming gig as part of the Hard Working Class Heroes festival. Now here's this week's, and we'll give you a small clue in that there's an Electric Picnic-esque flavour to this e-zine...
"I found her on a night of fire and noise
Wild bells rang in a wild sky
I knew from that moment on
I'll love her till the day that I died"
Christ, you could guess the artist without even knowing the song. Anyway, before the cat's out of the bag, let's move on with the show...

Dave Couse introduces his new band The Impossible with their brand new single "Batman and Robin", released nationwide on 16 September.
"Batman and Robin" comes with two quality B-sides. Couse and the Impossibles take on the Velvet Underground’s Sunday Morning and a new song Youngblood. That’s a bona fide classic, an exclusive non-album track and a Lou Reed song!!
A new album, provisionally titled "The World Should Know" follows in October on 1969 Records.
Watch for Couse & the Impossible in the coming months, supporting both single and album with live appearances nationwide accompanied by friends including Bell X1 and 1969 label mates, Pugwash.

Old News Is Good News Dept.
To prepare for the plethora of international superstars making their way to Co. Laois, it may be apt to loll our head to one side and go misty-eyed with memories of yesteryear, when xx and xxxx. Here's a selection of our old interviews from headlining bands:
Mercury Rev interview, 1999
Picture the scene: 1999 is off to a frosty, Siberian start. The a funny currency called the Euro is introduced, confusing shop-owners nationwide. And Mercury Rev, whose new album Deserter Songs has just topped Hot Press's end of year poll for 1998, are in town. Peter Murphy does the honours...

Brautigan:
Although my cat is a female, I call her Fred.
What do people call their pets?
And can we bring pets to Electric Picnic?
gladys:
You killed my dog!
brautigan:
No I didn't. That was some other guy who, er looked like me...
what_would_joan_jett_do:
My gecko is dying to see The Arcade Fire. He wil definitely be coming to The Picnic.
From: tornaxx:
We need to know the name of the gecko! What_gordon_gecko_did, maybe?
clemantine:
Having sold the wanton trollop of a bitch that produced 2 litters - each of 11 pups - earlier this year, we now are finally reduced to 2 dogs.
Each of these stalwart protectors of our home has no loyalty to their original names. The older one, Fred, is called Dilly by my daughter and Pup (go figure!) by my husband. The younger one responds to Peanut, Ozzy and Fool. Fool was my contribution when the stupid yolk ate my good Dunnes jeans two months ago!
Think I’d like a gecko instead.
*******post of the week: only because this guy is bonkers*******
secrecy_ie:
Dont have any pets, live in apartment complex where they are not allowed and never had one as a kid because my mum hates anything with four legs. If I did have a cat though, I think I would have to call it dog. Just like my first child will be called Dave but it will be spelled A-L-A-N. Just want to confuse his teacher, 'Okay wheres Alan C******.' 'Sorry Miss, my name's Dave but its spelled A-L-A-N'
Anyway, enough of that.
*******end post of the week*******
