Enan is a major talent and one clearly in it for the long haul.
Performing with her compact, jazz-based band before a small but appreciative audience, Belfast- based Enan weaved pure magic tonight with strong originals such as ‘Don’t Worry’ and ‘Bring On The Wonder’. With an engaging, attractive voice and wicked way with words the Liverpool University graduate knows her way around a melody. Another number, ‘Gold Dust’ was an absolute gem and you could hear a pin drop as she delivered other songs from her acclaimed EP, Skin & Bone & Silicone.
She has the voice, the songs and the band but it has to be said that her stagecraft could do with a little work if she expects to reach a wider audience. Does she really need to sit on a stool for the entire show when she could be up and moving around a little, especially on numbers like the pop oriented ‘Company’? And whether down to genuine shyness or lack of anything to say, her almost non-existent between-song banter could work against her. (“This is a song called...” precedes virtually every number with little variation).
Those minor quibbles apart, Enan is a major talent and one clearly in it for the long haul.
