PinkPantheress, Wet Leg and Yard Act shortlisted for BBC Sound Of 2022
Previous winners include Adele, Michael Kiwanuka and Haim.
PinkPantheress, Wet Leg, Yard Act and more have been nominated for the BBC Radio 1 Sound Of 2022.
The winner of the prestigious award will be announced in January 2022. Baby Queen, ENNY, Priya Ragu, Tems, Mimi Webb, Lola Young and Central Cee also received nods for the award.
It’s a stacked list of stars who big things are expected of in the future. The award has been held by a number of high-profile artists in the past including Adele, Michael Kiwanuka, Haim and Celeste. Pa Salieu claimed the award in 2021.
Lola Young had been scooping plaudits and acclaim this year — her Sound Of 2022 nomination follows her BRITs nod for the Rising Star Award. She is in contention for the gong along with Holly Humberstone and Bree Runaway — both of which were nominated for the Sound Of 2021.
“The Sound Of list started in 2003 with the aim to showcase the most exciting rising stars in music,” the BBC said.
“19 years later, and the aim is the same — to continue predicting some of the biggest and most exciting global superstars.”
“The acts that appear on Sound Of are all hand-picked by a panel of impartial music industry experts from around the world and we can now reveal the long-list for 2022,” they added.
Wet Leg recently announced their forthcoming debut album and shared the singles ‘Oh No’ and ‘Too Late Now.’ The self-titled LP will arrive on April 8th via Domino.
