Oasis in '08: "When we’re on fucking form, we’ll roast any band past and present – all on the same day"
Ahead of Oasis’s sold-out Croke Park shows on August 16 & 17, we’re taking a deep-dive into the Hot Press archives – to hear Liam and Noel's incredible story in their own words...
'08:
The vibes couldn’t have been any more positive in August when Liam, in Dig Out Your Soul promo mode, treated us to another epic interview. The secret he was bursting to tell us – but didn’t – is that Oasis were soon to announce their headlining return to Slane in 2009. Nothing in the conversation suggested that within a year the band would be history…
“You try your best with all yer’ records. Some days you make great music, some days you make magical music – and the magic was definitely in the air for this one. We’re really proud of it.”
“Not interested in solo stuff. It’s always about the band. There are some other good jobs out there, but Oasis lead singer is the one for me.”
“I couldn’t give a fuck about Jay-Z (headlining Glastonbury) . I’m not into rap. I don’t care about Noel Gallagher either to be honest. Both a fucking pair of dicks!”
“I played that Gaelic football in Manchester, big style. I’d have been 14 or 15. Hurling’s a tough fucking game, isn’t it? My uncle George used to play for Kilkenny, but I was too chicken to try it.”
“There ain’t no one who can fuck with the mighty Oasis. When we’re on fucking form, we’ll roast any band past and present – all on the same day. It’s just down to whether we’re on form, and at the moment we fucking are!”
