New short film marks the second anniversary of Talos's passing
The short film was created from footage of French's Sounds From a Safe Harbour residency in 2023.
A new short film will be released tomorrow, August 11, to mark the second anniversary of the passing of Eoin French - the Cork-native electro-pop musician who performed under the name Talos.
The short film was created from behind-the-scenes footage of Talos’s Sounds From a Safe Harbour (SFSH) festival residency. In 2023, he collaborated with Ólafur Arnalds, Niamh Regan, and Ye Vagabonds on the neoclassical song 'We Didn't Know We Were Ready' during the residency.
The film is presented by SFSH, edited by Louise Gaffney and uses footage by Peadar Ó Goill, Steve O’Connor, Sean Phair, and Adrian O’Connell.
Last year, the festival opened at the Cork Opera House with a gala called Remembering Talos. SFSH also paid tribute to the artist on The Tommy Tiernan Show with a special live performance featuring Ólafur Arnalds, Niamh Regan, Ye Vagabonds, Dermot Kennedy, The Staves, and others.
His 2023 residency served as the launching pad for his collaborative posthumous album with Ólafur Arnalds called A Dawning, which was released in May of last year.
“We made this album together,” Arnalds said of A Dawning. “Even after, while I was there working on some arrangements, I never felt like I was truly alone. Near the end, where we were saying how grateful we were to have met each other, he told me, ‘You know, I’m still gonna be there.’”
Talos began his music career at the Cork School of Music in 2013. His debut 2017 album, Wild Alee, was nominated for the RTÉ Choice Music Prize. He passed in 2024 following a short illness, surrounded by loved ones.
