Musicians for Equality Announce Vicar St Gig
Michele Ann Kelly and The Spikes are just two of the acts announced for the Musicians For Marriage Equality gig.
The gig is scheduled for Vicar St on October 1 2009.
Tickets are available now from Ticketmaster outlets nationwide and online at www.ticketmaster.ie at €27.50. Additional acts will be announced in due course, with Hot Press acting as media sponsor for the Musicians for MarriagEquality campaign. Musicians for MarriagEquality is a collective of Irish musicians and others, both gay and straight, from the music industry who support civil marriage for same-sex couples.
Moninne Griffith, Director, MarriagEquality said, “Today’s announcement is thrilling and really brings the issue of civil marriage rights for same-sex couples to a new audience. Having the support of the music industry is no small feat and really sends a strong message out there, this issue is not going away and will grow stronger until lesbians and gay men can marry in a civil ceremony.”
Michele Ann Kelly, whose recent single ‘Time’ reached number two in the Irish download charts, added, “Musicians and artists have traditionally played a role in bringing important messages to the wider public. For me, Musicians for MarriagEquality is so important and I really hope it makes a significant difference. Five thousand people recently marched on the streets of Dublin calling for marriage rights for gay men and lesbians in Ireland and together we’ll make it happen.”
