Morrissey cancels concert due to "sleep deprivation" caused by noisy hotel
"It will take me one year to recover. And that is an understatement," said Morrissey.
Morrissey has cancelled his concert in Valencia due to "sleep deprivation" caused by a noisy hotel he was staying at.
Morrissey Central (Morrissey's official website) posted three statements about the singer’s night from "hell", and his decision to cancel the show.
Scheduled for Thursday, March 12, the concert hadn't been cancelled but the "circumstances made it impossible to perform," said Morrissey's team in the statement.
"Having travelled for two days by road, Morrissey reached the hotel in Valencia late on Wednesday. Any form of sleep or rest throughout the night was impossible due to festival noise / loud techno singing / megaphone announcements. This experience has left Morrissey in a catatonic state. Before leaving for tonight's scheduled concert, please check that the show remains possible under these circumstances," reads the statement.
"It will take me one year to recover. And that is an understatement," added the singer.
Morrissey is due to perform in two other Spanish cities, Zaragoza on March 14 and Seville on March 16. Since 2012, he has cancelled or postponed more than 200 concerts for a variety of reasons, including illness, logistical problems, and food poisoning. Out of 21 shows this year alone, five have already been cancelled.
After five years as the frontman of the rock band The Smiths, Morrissey went solo in 1987. Since then, he has produced 14 studio and two live albums. He released his 2026 record Make-Up Is a Lie this January. Revisit our review of the album here.
