There’s no idle chat from Klingande on the main stage this afternoon; he knows it’s not what the pulsing crowd wants. The most he says is “Thank you everybody, you’ve been amazing,” in heavily accented English, as he leaves the stage following an astronomical set.
He leads the crowd in fist pumping and clapping during the performance, but there’s little need for it on the sunny slopes of Kilmainham – the throngs sing along to every song without his encouragement, sitting on each other’s shoulders with their arms in the air. The saxophone that Klingande’s tunes are famed for is played live, as are the violin and drums; the live playing works wonders for the set list. Klingande put on a slick and professional show – it’s just a pity that they won’t be playing any more dates in Ireland on their international tour this time around.
