Live Report: Wolf Alice electrify crowds at Electric Picnic

The rain stayed mostly away for Day One of Electric Picnic, and spirits were still high and almost as sparkly as Wolf Alice's star spangled disco ball deco-d stage for their Friday night set.

Walking out onto the Electric Arena to a huge cheer, they launched right into a high energy performance with Bloom Baby Bloom.

"Good to be back in Ireland, let's have a good Friday night shall we?!" singer Ellie Rowsell, sporting her signature spangled blue eyeshadow, shouted out to us, before they rocked right into White Horses, which got the place bouncing right away.

They followed it up with Formidable Cool, an apt description for Rowsell herself as she stalks across the stage clad in a leather two-piece looking like the second coming of Joan Jett.

The entire band is in fine form and bassist Theo Ellis asks us to "take the roof off" if we know the words  to How Can I Make It OK, which we duly oblige.

Just Two Girls really gets the crowd dancing, and Rowsell delights us by shouting out "Slainte" as she takes a drink before launching into the next one, her powerful and enchanting vocals, backed by a band that can always be counted on to deliver a blow-away performance.

Ellis demands we open up the pit as Rowsell tears across the stage screaming into a megaphone for Yuk Foo, a redition so loud and growly you can feel the bassline under your skin.

After a few more hits including Smile, they slow things down a little as Rowsell sits on the stairs and serenades us with The Last Man on Earth, before finishing on Don't Delete the Kisses (as if it could be any else).

The final and loudest cheer is reserved for their walk off track, as they wave goodbye to us while playing 9 to 5, a classy nod to the late great Dolly Parton.
