Live Report: Luvcat casts a spell on the Electric Arena
The Liverpool-born artist dazzled in her Irish debut
On Friday evening, Luvcat made her unforgettable Irish debut at Electric Picnic's Electric Arena, a debut that solidifyed her status as a rising pop star.
Backed by a tight four-piece band, the singer-songwriter, who crafts her songs from tales of a "wild and romantic" life between London and Paris, performed her full repertoire of seven songs, each one reinforcing the sense that this was a moment of arrival.
She opened with the sultry 'Lipstick', setting a tone of romance and atmospheric storytelling. Before playing 'Love & Money', a track inspired by a whirlwind romance with a filmmaker, she quipped, "This is a love song," offering a characteristically understated introduction to a song that marries sweetness with a sharp emotional edge.
As the set moved into the punchy, self-assertive 'Matador' and the playful 'Vicious Delicious', her magnetic personality had fully captivated the crowd.
But it was during 'Blushing' that a more vulnerable side emerged. Dedicating the song to her best friend in the front row, Luvcat reinforced the track's theme of youthful infatuation and bittersweet yearning. Her voice, by turns delicate and commanding, perfectly captured the track’s nostalgic ache.
The highlight followed with her biggest hit to date 'He’s My Man', a melancholic yet seductive ballad delivered with such poise that it left the audience in awe.
Closing with the 'Dinner @ Brasserie Zédel', Luvcat affirmed herself as a master storyteller, painting songs like daydreams, cinematic, timeless, and, above all, deeply romantic.
There’s a sense that she is an artist that belongs to another era, a hopeless romantic in the mould of Lana Del Rey, yet with the dark edge of Billie Eilish.
With her debut album set for release on Halloween, Luvcat leaves Stradbally with more than just a memorable first Irish show, she leaves with the promise of a star on the rise, ready to define the next chapter of pop music.
