Live Report: Delush packs The Grand Social with their high-energy show
Performing their biggest headline show to date, Delush ignited The Grand Social with newfound liveliness.
Fresh from their Electric Picnic gigs at the Hot Press chatroom and the Fishtown stage, Tallaght rock band Delush took on their biggest headliner yet, with a Grand Social show in Dublin on Saturday night.
The group were originally a songwriting duo formed by frontman Scott Leigh and guitarist Sean Corcoran, with Keeghan Farrell (drums) and Aaron Walsh Maguire (bass) joining later. Their debut single 'Famous' came out in June, followed by the release of their singles 'Rio' and 'Long Way Down'.
After propping up their signature guitar case, with a bright pink "DELUSH" sign taped to the front, the rockers dived into their first track of the night - 'Got Sick'.
Leigh shared in an interview that the track's title is literal: It "was actually about a night out in Maynooth. I literally got sick on my jeans. I was told by the bouncer I was too drunk. I told him I was grand, and the minute he walked away I stood up from the table and projectiled."
The candid tone came through in the gritty, fast lyrics, as Leigh belted the tune alongside booming drums that started and stopped on on a whim.

"Wake the fuck up Grand Social!" screamed the singer as the track ended.
Keeping the energy up, the band broke into 'Amused'. Opening with heavy, staccato drumbeats before blending with the rest of the band to create an Oasis-tinged sound, the tune was passionate, aggressive and breathless.
It really felt as if you were at a cult band's gig, as beers were flung into the air.
Following a longer, flushed-out intro, Delush continued the night with their most recent release 'Long Way Down'. Featuring a prominent, staccato bassline and catchy lyrics, the track was a hit with the crowd. Leigh picked up on the atmosphere, unable to keep the bliss from his voice.

True to their theme, the band performed under pink spotlights as they moved to the second half of their set.
'On Display' was slowed-down, veering into folk-country with a warm guitar riff and light, somber vocals. "Wasn't that a beautiful little moment," said Leigh.
Without missing a beat, the mood picked back up with the groovy 'Pretty Girls', as they prompted the crowd to clap along. A jazzy bassline filled the packed house as fans danced.
Continuing the energy, Delush shifted into the angsty 'I Hate You'. The track features punk-inspired lyrics with an emotional flair.
Finishing off the night with their most popular tracks, they jumped into their anthemic 'Famous'. Fans rushed the stage as they heard booming bass and guitar, as the lyrics discussed how the saturation of social media prevents real talent from standing out.
Leigh made his way to the steps of the stage, soaking up the moment before moving into the pop-rock style 'RIO', which fans had been asking for throughout the night. As the name suggests, the song takes on on a summery feel, with the melody embodying a sweet and lively energy.
They ended the night with their very own theme song, promoting the audience to scream along as they tossed their drinks in the air.
Delush, a band best seen live, gave The Grand Social a night to remember with their spirited performance.
