Singer-songwriter Declan McKenna has released his first new music of 2021, 'My House'.
The song oozes chill vibes, and is ostensibly driven along by a rhythmic chord progression on the guitar. The song feels warm and summery, with tinges of romance: “Being wary of keeping a personal life, talking publicly about those close to me is something I’m very careful about, but with this song I found a way to talk about love in a way that is fun but felt kind of real, and thankfully for my girlfriend it’s not set in an alternate reality dystopia or some stupid shit like that,” says McKenna.
“With ‘My House’ I was diving into this daydream of running away and becoming reconnected. I was just having fun on a sunny spring morning, making the best out of what soon wouldn’t feel so restful and calm.
"But it’s a light-hearted song and for me it is just that – remembering what it is to be lost in your thoughts in a good way, like being a child again,” he continues.
This is the artist's first release since his sophomore album, Zeros, in September of last year.
Irish fans have the opportunity to see McKenna's new songs live at this year's Electric Picnic. The artist is due to come back for another round of gigs in 2022, when he hits the stage at Dublin's Olympia Theatre on May 12 and Cork's Cyprus Avenue on May 13. Get your tickets here.
