Cavan songwriter Lisa O’Neill has released a new six-track EP, The Wind Doesn't Blow This Far Right, with a 12” vinyl edition due on February 20, 2026.
She has also shared a new video for her rendition of ‘The Bleak Midwinter’, directed by Ellius Grace. O’Neill will mark the release with an in-store performance at Spindizzy Records, Dublin, on November 24.
"I've loved this song since I first heard Bert Jansch's unique recording of it," said O'Neill. "When I sing this song, I think about the abundance of compassion and love we have within us even when we feel we have nothing to give. In the bleakest of circumstances, love is a beacon.”
The EP includes O’Neill’s version of Bob Dylan’s ‘All The Tired Horses’, which sountracked the closing scene of the final episode of Peaky Blinders.
It also features ‘Homeless In The Thousands (Dublin in the Digital Age)’, her collaboration with Peter Doherty released earlier this year.
Another new track, ‘The Wind Doesn’t Blow This Far Right’, was written between 2017 and early 2025 and reflects, in O’Neill’s words, “the unsettled times that we live in.”
The EP also includes ‘Mother Jones’, a live favourite about Irish-born labour activist Mary G. Harris Jones, and concludes with a reading of the James Stevens poem ‘Autumn 1915’.
O’Neill is currently midway through an extensive Irish tour. The run concludes with a headline show at Dublin’s Vicar Street on December 21, with remaining dates listed below.
Forthcoming Irish dates:
Nov 20 – Belltable, Limerick
Nov 21 – Belltable, Limerick
Nov 22 – Quiet Lights Festival, St Luke’s, Cork
Nov 23 – The Attic Hotel, Doolin, Clare
Nov 28 – Jerome Hynes NOH, Wexford
Dec 21 – Vicar Street, Dublin (with Junior Brother)
