Lana Del Rey drops theme song for new James Bond game

Lana Del Rey has dropped the theme song for the new James Bond video game, 007 First Light, out May 27.

'First Light' is a collaboration with five-time Bond film composer David Arnold. Produced by IO Interactive and Amazon MGM Studios, the song joins dramatic horns and strings with the classic Bond theme.

The game is an original, reimagined origin story of James Bond. It follows a 26 year-old Bond at the very beginning of his "journey in the world of espionage," according to the description.

Lenny Kravitz will play Bond's new villain Bawma, alongside Patrick Gibson as young 007. The cast also includes Priyanga Burford as M, Lennie James as mentor John Greenway, Kiera Lester as Moneypenny, Alastair Mackenzie as Q, Gemma Chan as Dr. Selina Tan, and Noémie Nakai as Ms. Roth.

"The music of James Bond has always been a huge part of its identity," said Arnold.

"A title song has to tell us about the world we are about to enter into. It has to intrigue, excite, and beckon us in. This song joins a long line of genre defining songs, each one creating a benchmark of style that adds to the magnificent heritage that is 'The Bond Song'".

Initially planned for release on March 27, the date was moved to May last December. IO Interactive, also the makers of the Hitman video game franchise, announced more time was needed for production.

It's been over three years since Lana released her album Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd.

Her most recent song before the 007 theme was 'White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter,' in February. Set to feature on her her tenth studio album Stove, the song is a collaboration with Jack Antonoff.

Initially announced as Lasso in 2024, the album's title was first changed to The Right Person Will Stay, and then Stove. The release has also been pushed back twice, and is now scheduled to be released later this year.

The 007 First Light title sequence featuring Lana's track is set for release later today, April 17.
