KNEECAP clap back at British PM Keir Starmer
The band responded to recent comments the Prime Minister made during his visit to Belfast.
KNEECAP clap back at British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for saying that everything that the Belfast rap trio stands for is "completely intolerable".
"Fuck Keir Starmer," wrote the group. "A man who couldn't get us cancelled from Glasto. A man who couldn't beat us in court. A man who has destroyed the Labour Party. A man whose government supports war criminals in Israel with weapons and intelligence."
KNEECAP's Mo Chara was accused of displaying a flag in support of the proscribed terror organisation Hezbollah at his performance at the O2 Forum in North London in November 2024.
The case was thrown out last September, with Magistrate Paul Goldspring ruling that the proceedings were "instituted unlawfully".
At the beginning of this year, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) appealed against the decision at the UK High Court to throw out the terror case against Mo Chara.
This week, the appeal was rejected on the basis that the charge fell outside the six-month time frame in which criminal charges against a defendant can be brought.
During a visit to Belfast, Keir Starmer was asked about the decision to bring the case against the group member.
"My views on Kneecap are very well known in relation to what they stand for and what they say, which is completely intolerable," said Starmer.
"I think the CPS were obviously subject to the High Court decision and they will be looking at the judgment very carefully."
Speaking to The Journal, Mo Chara's solicitor, Darragh Mackin, said that a malicious prosecution case may now be brought against the British Government.
"I think there's undoubtedly scope to take action against them," said Mackin. "It'll be interesting to see what steps the British goverment take themselves to investigate just how this fiasco came about.
"The court is unquestionably critical of the manner in which this prosecution was brought. So I think the first step in the road is for the government to review their own process to determine how this got to where it got to, and after that, then we will consider all options as to whether a malicious prosecution [case] is required."
