Kim Gordon has announced her upcoming album PLAY ME, set to drop on March 13 via Matador Records.
The singer, who was a founding member of the American rock band Sonic Youth, launched her solo career six years ago and is now announcing her third solo album.
PLAY ME was produced by Justin Raisen, who also produced her previous albums, No Home Record (2019) and the Grammy-nominated The Collective (2024).
Both were reviewed by Hot Press, with No Home Record receiving an 8/10 and The Collective a 6/10.
The new LP, described as distilled and immediate in a statement, is said to explore the collateral damage of the billionaire class, the demolition of democracy, technocratic fascism, and the AI-fueled flattening of culture.
"I have to say, the thing that influenced me most was the news. We are in some kind of ‘post empire’ now, where people just disappear," said Gordon.
The singer has also shared the lead track of the record, accompanied by a music video, which was directed by Kate and Laura Mulleavy and Christopher Blauvelt.
"I started singing in a way I hadn't sung in a long time," she said. "This other voice came out."
