The 42-year-old has kept quiet on all platforms recently.
American people have been flooding the streets in nationwide protests against police brutality over the last week to demand justice for black community members who were murdered by the force.
After weeks of surprising and uncharacteristic silence, Kanye West has reportedly decided to help the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery by donating $2 million to black resistance charities.
He has also launched a college fund for Floyd’s six-year-old daughter, Gianna Floyd.
While Kanye has yet to make a public statement, Variety confirmed that he made sizeable donations in Floyd, Taylor, and Arbery’s honour.
The rapper and music producer has also offered to cover the legal fees for both Arbery and Taylor’s families, and promised to financially support black-owned businesses in Chicago.
His wife, Kim Kardashian, has made her own social media statements on the Black Lives Matter protests, with her husband refraining from any written commentary.
“For years, with every horrific murder of an innocent black man, woman, or child, I have always tried to find the right words to express my condolences and outrage, but the privilege I am afforded by the colour of my skin has often left me feeling like this is not a fight that I can truly take on my own,” she wrote on Instagram.
“Not today, not anymore. Like so many of you, I am angry. I am more than angry. I am infuriated and I am disgusted. I am exhausted by the heartbreak I feel seeing mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers and children suffering because their loved one was murdered or locked away unjustly for being black.”
Kanye recently partnered with Chick-fil-A to provide 300,000 meals to families in need during the. coronavirus pandemic, after it was announced that the artist has now reached billionaire status.
He was also seen at Chicago protests against police brutality, marching alongside members of his hometown.
