John Prine recordings to be released in new collection Found Dogs

In celebration of the 30^th anniversary of John Prine’s 12^th studio album, Lost Dogs & Mixed Blessings, a curated archival collection titled Found Dogs will be released on October 9.

A first look at the album, unreleased original song ‘World Without Love,’ was released yesterday. It comes alongside a lyric video with Super 8 footage from a Prine family vacation in the early 1970s.

The 10-track record also includes acoustic solo performances, various alternate takes and four other unreleased Prine originals, including ‘Hey Ah Nothin’ and ‘Dogs in Burlington.’ Among those tracks are a cover of Johnny Horton’s ‘All for the Love of a Girl’ and a solo acoustic version of ‘Humidity Built the Snowman.’

Found Dogs was originally released as a limited-edition run of 2,000 LPs for April Record Store Day. It comes as part of a series of events and tributes for the American folk artist’s 80^th birthday.

Last month, Oh Boy Records, Prine's former independent record label, released the 2010 concert recording Live at Old Town School of Folk. On October 8, Oh Boy and the Prine family will host “Souvenirs: 80 Years of John Prine,” a tribute concert at the Chicago Theatre.

Prine, born in Illinois in 1946, released his self-titled debut album in 1971. During his career, he received two Grammy awards and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

He passed away on April 7, 2020 due to complications from COVID-19.
