Jennifer Evans 'Works From The Dip And Fowl' - Album Review
A NEW SONGSTRESS OF SUBSTANCE EMERGES
Fresh from opening for Damien Rice at the Grand Canal Theatre and playing 6am breakfast gigs in the Fumbally, hotly tipped singer Jennifer Evans finally unveils her debut, Works From The Dip And Fowl. Jennifer’s smoky vocals have been exciting observers for some years now and with good reason: she is a distinctive and singular singer, floating beautifully between jazz, folk, blues and pop rock of a challenging variety.
The arrangements here walk a line between richness and minimalism, perfectly exemplified on ‘Promises, Promises’. The often feted Stephen Shannon, aka Strands, has done another exceedingly fine job on these eleven tracks, which feature nine self-penned songs from Jennifer, one from friend and contemporary Rhob Cunningham, plus a daring, delightful cover ofMassive Attack’s ‘Unfinished Sympathy’.
A fine debut – Jennifer Evans take a bow.
OUT NOW.
