J. Cole apologises after releasing a Kendrick Lamar diss track
Just three days after the release of the song ‘7 Minute Drill’, the rapper has apologised publicly to Kendrick Lamar and vowed to pull the song off streaming services.
After dropping the surprise album Might Delete Later last week, which contained a track dissing Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole has apologised to his fellow rapper, saying he “felt terrible.” The song came after Lamar took shots at Cole and Drake on ‘Like That’, a song featured on Future and Metro Boomin’s album We Don’t Trust You.
On ‘7 Minute Drill’, Cole directly addressed Lamar’s comments, stating: "Blood don’t make me have to smoke this n—a ’cause I fuck with him / But push come to shove on this mic I will humble him." He also called Lamar’s latest album “tragic.”
However, during his set at the Dreamville Festival in North Carolina last Sunday (April 7), J. Cole formally apologised to his fellow rap titan, calling his response “lame” and “goofy.” He added that the song “didn’t sit right with my spirit.”
Cole then promised that he would remove ‘7 Minute Drill’ from streaming services, going on to praise Lamar: “He’s one of the greatest. I’m hoping that he didn’t take offence, and if he did, I got my chin out. Take your best shot, I’ll take that on the chin.”
