There has always been something a little too…digestible about Seal’s music.
It seems an eternity ago that Seal was collaborating with Adamski on ‘Killer’. Since then, he has become the consummate housewife’s favourite, which in itself is no bad thing. Of course, he has been blessed with a soulful and melancholic voice, and was a welcome and much-lauded presence on the British soul scene of the last decade.
That said, there has always been something a little too…digestible about Seal’s music. While the gates of opportunity vis a vis electronic cool had swung open to him after his collaboration with Adamski, he chose to play the safer card, gravitating towards vaguely emotional soft-rock pop.
Like The Lighthouse Family, Seal’s music is catchy enough, crafted with the soundtracking of family car adverts in mind, but ultimately holds no profound meaning. The single, ‘My Vision’ is certainly a highlight and one of the more universally appealing numbers…it may lack in emotional punch, but it’s definitely worth a half-hearted shimmy across the living room floor.
