Interview with Stephen Mahoney, founder of Delinquent Delivery Records
How did the label start?
It started as a solo EP by myself, entitled Shelter, from which Shelter was born. In turn, Shelter led to Delinquent Delivery. The name encapsulates what I enjoy about DJing, and solidifies the ethos behind the musical vision.
Who has featured on the label?
2017 featured Aubrey, Volster, Lars Huismann, and myself with Lee Holman. 2018, meanwhile, saw releases from Ben Gibson and Mary Velo, whilst Flexure’s solo EP finished off the Shelter series. The establishment of Delinquent Delivery also saw the release of Lockertmaik’s Director’s Cut EP, and a split EP from Nathan Jones and myself, entitled Pulsate.
What are your plans for the label?
At the moment, I’m working on a two-part EP called the Untitled series, the first of which is just back from mastering. I’m going back to how I started, to have at least one broken beat track; an ambient and a minimalistic track; plus two powerful dancefloor movers. I also have some Irish and international producers in mind I would like to work with.
How do you go about production?
At the moment I’m using a digitakt, a Nuetron and a Waldorf Blofeld, plus VSTs. I combine synthesis with sampling and use a digital desk into Ableton. There I manipulate sound and mix and write as I go. The writing process can be quick, but I spend a lot of time with mix-downs until I’m happy with the sound.
Has your own studio practice influenced the label?
Yes, and my record collection too. Every artist who has featured – I own their records. That’s not intentional but it’s how it worked out. I like to go after producers whom I admire and I listen to every demo sent.
