Hot Press Track of the Day: Alan Finan’s ‘Slumber’
Donegal native Alan Finan has premiered his new single ‘Slumber’ with Hot Press today, having spent the best part of the last year working on his debut EP The Undwelling.
Formerly a member of an outfit called Óg, Finan’s single ‘Slumber’, released today, is the first track written and recorded under his own name.
The effect is impressive. ‘Slumber’ is deftly produced, tender and distinctive. The soaring melody is one part seductive, one part poignant. Labyrinthine guitar runs blend effortlessly with Finan’s confident vocals.
His voice, in fact, deserves a mention all of its own. As difficult a feat as it is to achieve, Finan’s voice feels simultaneously comfortingly familiar and totally revelatory.
The EP launch follows an appearance with Óg at Dingle’s famed Other Voices festival in 2016. Finan has also been announced in the line up for Sea Sessions in his home county of Donegal in June.
On the EP release, Finan said he was “really happy to be able to share it”. He’s got every right to be.
