Haitian President Michel Martelly to visit Dublin
The visit is part of Irish Haitian Week in late January, which aims to raise awareness for the ongoing relief efforts being made in the Caribbean country.
As exclusively revealed last week on hotpress.com, President Michel Martelly is coming to Dublin for the Irish Haitian Week, which is running from January 21 to 28 and will showcase the work of seven relief organisations that have a presence in the earthquake-hit Caribbean country – Haven, Concern, Soul Of Haiti, Goal, Habitat For Humanity, Plan International and Unicef.
The President, who before going into politics racked up a string of hits as Sweet Micky – insert your own puerile joke! – has been invited over by Denis O’Brien, the Irish businessman who operates the Digicel phone network in Haiti and has himself been involved in numerous reconstruction projects.
Along with a wide range of other events, there’s a January 28 gig at Whelan’s featuring Haitian duo MaWon, Bipolar Empire, The Riptide Movement, Storyfold, runawayGo, The Raglans, The Shoos, Damo & Ivor, Eric Lalor and MC Claire Beck from Phantom 105.2.
Tickets are €20, with 90% of that going to the aforementioned organisations to help with their on-going work.
