Responsible for a string of proto funky techno tunes on Soma during the mid nineties, Percy X suddenly disappeared, leaving a big gap in the techno scene. Now he’s returned, with an album that proves he still knows how to make futuristic grooves, while spreading his sound into more diverse styles.
The album opens with ‘Interlink’, a beautiful string filled ambient affair, ‘Whatever Whenever’ is a deep, spacey break beat outing and recent single ‘Break It Down’ is a tuff, metallic electro groove. Despite the inclusion of these, Percy’s best material is dance floor oriented, witness the Resse inspired ‘Maintain’, the dense Samuel Session style tribal chant of ‘U Know What It Is’ and the dense, percussive title track. It’s not exactly innovative material, but, in the right hands will cause dancefloor mayhem. Mission accomplished, Percy.
