Starring The Weeknd, Factory Floor, Moby, Daft Punk and more...
Free Music Friday is all excited about jetting off on its holliers – the Neopolitan islands, Turin and lots of footie beckon – but first there’s time for another quality selection of tuneage that won’t cost you a brass cent.
FMF’s poolside listening will be provided by The Weeknd, Factory Floor, Willis Earl Beal, Potty Mouth and The Julie Ruin who are all streaming at [link]npr.org/series/98679384/first-listen[/link]; [link]3voor12.vpro.nl/luisterpaal/albums.html[/link] adds Múm, Chelsea Wolfe, Rue Royale, I Am Legion, Volcano Choir, Forest Swords, Barbarossa, Sheep, Dog & Wolf and Ras-G & The African Space Program to the mix; Body/Head, Windhand, Múm, Jacuzzi Boys and Holy Ghost! are hawking their wares at [link]pitchfork.com/advance[/link] and [link]albumstreams.com[/link] is the go-to place for Stay Positive, The Shakers, Tony Gardner, Summer Camp, Sundowner, BL’AST, Blouse, Múm, Tallows, Gemini Syndrome, London Grammar, Pink Frost, The Stepkids, Violent Affair and Drive-By Truckers. Phew!
NPR also has a brilliant download session from Baths, AKA Will Wiesenfeld, who has a bit of a Perfume Genius thing going on.
Our favourite Free Music Friday thing this week is ‘The Perfect Life’, Moby’s wonderfully uplifting collaboration with fellow maverick Wayne Coyne. Bag it for free from [link]cbswxrt2.files.wordpress.com/2013/09/the-perfect-life-with-wayne-coyne.mp3[/link]

Los Campesinos! whet appetites for next month’s No Blues album release with ‘What Death Leaves Behind’.
Karen O has a non-Yeah Yeah Yeahs tune, ‘The Moon Song’, available free but only until it reaches the 10,000 download mark. It features on the soundtrack to the new Spike Jonze movie, Her, which stars Joaquin Phoenix as a geeky-type from the near future who falls in love with a female computer operating system.
Southern blues rockers North Mississippi Allstars serve up a free taster from their World Boogie Is Coming album at [link]wxrt.cbslocal.com/2013/09/03/exclusive-north-mississippi-allstars-free-download[/link]; Having previously only been available as a vinyl 7”, Brendan Benson’s Record Store Day offering, ‘Diamond’, is yours by clicking on to [link]wxrt.cbslocal.com/2013/09/01/exclusive-brendan-benson-diamond-free-download[/link] and score a free Strypes tune in return for signing up to [link]zaphod.uk.vvhp.net/vvreg/7758-272140[/link]

Hotshot Atlanta producer DJ Spinz has just dropped his new HPG3 mixtape.
Another young gun – he’s just turned 18 – delivering the goods is Chief Keef who cameo'd earlier this year on the new Kanye album. With three arrests in the past year, you’d bet on the Chicagoan bad boy doing hard jail time before he’s out of his teens.
Chance The Rapper, The Weeknd, T.I. and Future are the special guests on Lil’ Wayne’s Dedication 5 collection.
Having played an Electric Picnic blinder, MØ treats us to a preview of her new Diplo-assisted tune, ‘XXX 88’.

The Out On A Limb gang are previewing the whole of Old Hearts Reborn, the new album from Hidden Highways, which drops on September 13 and sounds rather gorgeous.
Catch Carol Anne McGowan and Tim V. Smyth live in The Stag’s Head, Dublin (September 15); Bourke’s, Limerick (19); Dunderry Park, Meath (21); Seamus Ennis Centre, Naul (October 4) and Wyatt Hotel, Westport (6).
Bristol scamp Joker has released a nine-track album of Sonic Sega-inspired tunes, which is a whole lot of fun!
Dublin hip hopper Dean Doonan has the pugnacious ‘Son Of A Sinner’ available for free download. It’s produced by Bitter Rocc, so you know it has to be good!

Saoirse Ronan stars in the video for ‘Garden’s Heart’, a new Bat For Lashes and Jon Hopkins collaboration, which graces Last King Of Scotland director Kevin McDonald’s new film, How I Live Now.
Ronan is also the lead in the movie, which hits screens early next month and has Tom Holland and Anna Chancellor as its other leads.
We have to say Ms. R looks very glam as a blonde!
If it ain’t broke etc. etc. Daft Punk have confirmed the September 20 release of ‘Lose Yourself To Dance’, the second single to be lifted from Random Access Memories, which features Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers.
As you’d expect it’s another funky little number that wouldn’t have sounded out of place during the ‘70s at Studio 54.
The video is similarly ace!
