Feedback
Jurassic 5 have been one of the most consistent acts in hip-hop since their classic debut was released in 1997. So it’s sad to report that their fourth album doesn’t come anywhere near the standards set by previous efforts like Quality Control and Power In Numbers.

This is not the worst thing that could be said about an album, of course. Feedback still contains some excellent tracks (‘In The House’ is especially good, while ‘Future Sound’ is another highlight). The usual elements of the J5 formula are all there, the thoughtful rapping, the playful beats – but it’s generally missing something.
One thing this album could certainly have done without is a collaboration with the Dave Matthews Band. Why anyone thought it was a good idea to bring such a dreary outfit into the studio with J5 is a mystery. ‘Work It Out’, the lead single, is a bland, plodding tune, with none of the freshness and energy you’d expect from the group.
But sadly, it can’t all be blamed on the DMB. Too many tracks are predictable and monotonous, and some are downright mediocre.
Feedback is a big disappointment. Let’s hope J5 get back to their usual form soon.
