Exclusive: Watch We Cut Corners' newest track 'Stranded'
We Cut Corners release the latest single from their new album.
'Stranded' is one of the clear highlights from We Cut Corners fourth studio album, Imposters, which is out now. The song is another fine example of how this duo can work through complex emotions with deft turns of phrases. The understated instrumentation also leaves plenty of room for the power of Conal's voice.
The visuals for 'Stranded' were recorded by The Reelists, with the only instruction being that the video was recorded "as 'live' as possible."
Speaking about it, The Reelists said: "When Conal and John got in touch with us to make the video for Stranded, all they asked was that we record it as 'live' as possible. Beyond that, we were given a blank canvas to work on, in the beautiful wooded surrounds of the studio where Imposters was recorded. To echo themes of isolation and repetition in the song, we decided to experiment with using optical effects. For large parts of the shoot, we simply took the lens off the camera, and used magnifying glasses, kaleidoscopes and prisms to create all manners of textures, distortions, and strange effects. Watching Stranded now, we get the feeling of a long, warm summer's evening, as the sun gently sets, clouds of flies swarm, and calm music languidly flows through the air, preserved under a magnifying glass."
You can have a first look at 'Stranded' here and we'd advise listening to the album in full when you get a chance:
