Elvis Costello and Steve Nieve announce 4 Vicar Street shows for autumn 2024

Elvis Costello and Steve Nieve have announced a 4-night run between 27 Septmeber - 1 October at Vicar Street in 2024.

Following an acclaimed 2023 appearance at the National Concert Hall, Costello and Nieve return to Dublin to close their UK & Irish tour, during which they will present something approaching 100 songs in four different programmes.

"While Elvis Costello has all the class and talent of an artist who's been performing for over 50 years, he also brings all the passion and engrossment of a young artist carving out his reputation," said Hot Press' Jess Murray in her live report of the pair's September Dublin show.

Costello and Nieve have been collaborating for over 45 years, appearing on 25 studio albums and countless stages.

In early 2023, Costello undertook a ten-night engagement at the Gramercy Theatre in New York City, during which he began to take a deeper look at his repertoire.

“I want to uncover, rediscover, dismantle and re-assemble songs, 'Before your very eyes', as stage magicians used to announce before their next trick,” he said.

Costello’s songs have recently featured in the Rupert Goold-directed Almeida Theatre production of Cold War, adapted for the stage by Conor McPherson from Pawel Pawlikowski’s 2018 Oscar-nominated motion picture.

'I Do (Zula’s Song)' was written in response upon first viewing Cold War, before the idea of an adaptation was even proposed.

The stage of the feature contains new arrangements and interpretations of titles from Costello’s catalogue alongside songs specially written for this adaptation.
