Elton John and CMAT release reimagined version of 'Step into Christmas'

Elton John and CMAT have released a new reimagined version of Elton's holiday track 'Step into Christmas'.

It is available to stream exclusively on Amazon Music, where it is this year's Amazon Music Original Christmas song.

"I've loved CMAT since I first heard her and saw her videos years ago," Elton said of the collaboration. "She has this incredible personality, and a wicked sense of humour.

"You can tell she has rock 'n' roll and country and Americana at the heart of what she does - we're kindred spirits in so many ways. And that's why I was so thrilled with the idea of us collaborating on 'Step into Christmas'. She's done an amazing job."

Written as a thank-you gift to fans, 'Step Into Christmas' was originally shared in 1973. It peaked at No. 24 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 1 on the US Billboard Christmas Singles chart. The new version combines stems from Elton's original 1973 recordings with new strings and CMAT's vocals.

"When I listen to the music of Elton John, I am seven years old in the back of my mam's car," CMAT added. "It doesn't matter how old or famous I become - whenever I listen to Elton John I will always be 7 years old in the back of my mam's car.

"Reconciling this feeling with the reality of getting to work with the man in question has been confusing to say the least, but the greatest joy of my life. Christmas is my absolute favorite thing in the world, second maybe only to Elton John. I would like to invite the whole world to step into Christmas with us and make your yuletide dreams come true."

Last year, Kylie Minogue's Amazon Music Original 'XMAS' took the 2025 Christmas No. 1 spot on the Official UK Singles Chart, setting precedent for a possible No. 1 for Elton and CMAT this year.

"'Step Into Christmas' is one of those songs that instantly transports you - it has soundtracked the festive season for generations and holds a special place in so many people's hearts," said Laura Lukanz, head of Amazon Music UK.

"Their chemistry is undeniable, and this new version honours everything people love about the original while bringing something fresh and joyful for a whole new generation of fans to treasure."

Elton also had a Christmas No. 1 in 2021, joining Ed Sheeran and LadBaby on 'Sausage Rolls For Everyone'.

Meanwhile, this year, CMAT's third album Euro-Country won the Choice Music Prize and best album at the Ivor Novello Awards. She also continues to take the US by storm, having been a guest on NPR Music's Tiny Desk Concert series last month and performing on US talk show The Daily Show in September.
