Dylan Facebook application a winner
A new Bob Dylan Facebook application is among the smartest pieces of viral advertising yet. That's the view of influential e-media commentators at Techcrunch (who described it as "the coolest Facebook application yet"), Face Reviews and PSFKT – as well as the Sun newspaper.
Taking its cue from the legendary D.A.Pennebaker film to accompany 'Subterranean Homesick Blues', the Bob Dylan Facebook application allows you to have a personalized video greeting from Dylan on your profile page.
"You can also send personalized video greetings to your friends as well. This is really fun," Rodney Rumford enthused on Face Reviews. "Bob Dylan Facebook application rocks," was the headline on Mashable.
And it does. The familiar lyric sheets held up by Dylan in the film are changed to show how it will look to the recipient of your message: "Send a message/ Just like this one/ It's easy/ Click here!" The user has ten cards on which to get their life-changing message across.
The Facebook application, designed to promote the new album Dylan: His Greatest Songs, was masterminded by Niamh O'Reilly, formerly of HMV, who is digital marketing manager in the SonyBMG commercial department. The application is also available to non-Facebookers via DylanMessaging.com.
