Duffy announces live performance after 15-year hiatus
The Welsh singer-songwriter, who stepped away from music following an abduction and assault, has announced a new show.
Duffy, known for her 2008 song ‘Mercy,’ is breaking her 15-year-long hiatus with a live London performance on July 5.
She informed fans via Instagram of an upcoming "secret intimate gig" scheduled for July 5 in London, though venue details aren't currently announced.
This performance represents the singer's gradual return to the spotlight. In 2009 she won the Best Pop Vocal Album Grammy award for her album Rockferry. She was also nominated for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
Duffy originally retreated from public life in 2011. In 2020, she broke her decade-long silence by disclosing that she had been drugged, abducted, and held captive for several weeks, an experience she later detailed in a 3,000-word post on her website.
"It didn’t feel safe to go to the police," said Duffy. "I felt if anything went wrong, I would be dead, and he would have killed me. I could not risk being mishandled or it being all over the news during my danger."
Regarding a potential return to music, she wrote at the time, "I’m doing this to be freed, for all of me to be freed. What follows remains to be seen."
In addition to the live show, her story will be explored in a new feature-length documentary for Disney+. The film is set to chronicle her journey from her upbringing in Wales to her rapid rise to fame and her subsequent disappearance from the music scene.
