Drake Crowned Spotify’s Most Streamed Artist of 2016

Drake was the most popular musician played on Spotify for the second year running in 2016 with an astronomical 4.7 billion streams on the music service.

“Drake has been unstoppable this year – he’s a true global superstar. With the top album and the top song this year, as well as his successful Summer Sixteen tour, Drake continues to engage his fans in a way that only Drake can. It’s no surprise he is dominating the music industry,” says Stefan Blom, Spotify’s Chief Content and Chief Strategy Officer.
The Canadian rapper took the top spot in both the most streamed albums section with ‘Views’ and in the singles section with ‘One Dance’. It’s an all the more remarkable achievement when you consider that the astonishing figure 4.7 billion steams is over double of what Drake achieved in 2015 with 1.8 billion streams.
The other musicians included in the top five most streamed artists are Justin Bieber at number two, followed by Rihanna with 2.5billion streams in total, Twenty One Pilots, and Kanye West was listed in fifth place.
