DON'T WATCH: M.I.A claims video is censored for 'cultural appropriation'
Artist takes to Twitter to vent her anger
If you're looking for a new M.I.A video, you're out of luck; the singer has claimed she's been prevented from releasing a new music video because it was shot in Africa.
M.I.A. - who is of Sri Lankan Tamil heritage - took to Twitter to vent her frustrations, saying that she wanted to talk about 'clultrural appropriation' [sic].
The woman known as Mathangi Arulpragasam to her mum explained that a video shot in Ivory Coast features a one-take shot of an local dancer, and went on to offer it to any artist from Africa who breaks through in the next year.
Having thrown a middle finger at the camera during her Superbowl appearance with Madonna - and catching the eye of a few Irish people with her video for 'Born Free' featuring a ginger genocide - it's fair to say she's familiar with controversy; check out the tweets behind the latest furore below...
I wanna talk about clutrural appropriation! I've been told I can't put out a video because it's shot in Africa. Discuss

What happens when I shoot videos in America or Germany it makes no sense to the 00.01% of artists like me.

If the music industry allows an African artist to come through this year on intnl level, I would gladly give him this video for free.
