Designer Music Volume 1
After subjecting train spotters worldwide to years and years of frustration, Planet E boss Carl Craig finally relents and releases his impossible to track down, limited edition Designer Music 12s on one CD.
After subjecting train spotters worldwide to years and years of frustration, Planet E boss Carl Craig finally relents and releases his impossible to track down, limited edition Designer Music 12s on one CD.
Many of these tracks were only available via Planet E’s now defunct subscription service, so for many listeners it’s the first time hearing Craig’s deep, tribal take on Ron Trent's ‘Altered States’ or his harsh metallic, jacking spin on ‘Spacetime Continuum’.
However, it’s the more musical interpretations of other artists work that make Designer Music such a treat. The Planet E man breathes a deep proto tech-house sound into BT’s ‘Moment Of Truth’, drops a beautiful dubby, breakbeat house remix of ‘Telex’, instills the Tito Puente-penned ‘Picadillo’ with sensuous guitar strumming, dope salsa-tinged beatz and classical piano tinkling while his brassy, sprawling jazz-inspired spins on UFO and Incognito are worth the price alone.
Carl Craig has always been years ahead of his peers and Designer Music proves he's one of dance music's real trendsetters.
