Death Cab For Cutie announce new album, release ‘Riptides’
The US band also announced that they would be kicking off their UK/EU tour with a show at Dublin’s 3Olympia Theatre in September.
Death Cab For Cutie have announced their eleventh studio album, I Built You A Tower, and released the single ‘Riptides’. They have also announced a Dublin show in support of the album at the 3Olympia Theatre on September 16.
I Built You A Tower is set to be released on June 5 via independent record label ANTI-. It is the first album from the US alternative rock band in four years, following 2022’s Asphalt Meadows.
“I Built You A Tower is an album about loss and the ways by which we attempt, ultimately unsuccessfully, to compartmentalize grief,” said the band in announcing the album. “We compartmentalize because we need to keep ourselves together to do our jobs, raise our families, etc. But the structures we build within ourselves to hold our grief at bay are only so strong. Eventually, the grief spills over and we are forced to face it. And sometimes it is more than we can bear.”
The release of ‘Riptides’ follows the band’s 2023 single, ‘An Arrow In The Wall’.
“‘Riptides’ is about the challenge of dealing with personal struggles as the world around us experiences tragedy and loss on an unfathomable scale,” said the band. “And how when these two elements intertwine themselves in our psyches, it feels utterly paralyzing.”
Along with announcing I Built You A Tower and releasing ‘Riptides’, the band announced a tour across the UK and EU, kicking off in Dublin this September.
I Built You A Tower is out in June, and tickets for the band’s September show at the 3Olympia Theatre in Dublin go live on Friday.
