Cullen Delays Album To Release Political EP
Singer-songwriter Jimi Cullen has postponed the release of his new album until next Spring and is releasing a political EP
He will give out the EP free during his imminent tour.
Cullen, one of the few contemporary Irish songwriters to engage uncompromisingly with issues besetting contemporary Ireland, revealed to Hot Press that " I started to feel like I was rushing a little bit to get the album done and I had some political songs I'd also written that I wanted to release now with all that is happening in the country. For the first time I can remember, people are finally starting to stand up for themselves against the corruption of our elected leaders, and that's why it's so important to get these songs out now."
Cullen is this week releasing the new EP Brown Envelopes and Lies, a title that will resonate with anybody who has been following the shenanigans of Irish politicians of late. It's a 4-song collection which will be given away free at all Cullen's upcoming gigs and can also be downloaded free at www.jimicullenmusic.com . All the songs have a theme of protest or injustice, one of which, 'We Will Rise', he sang outside Leinster House to an eager audience of 2,000 people at the Right to Work protest on May 18. As Cullen told Hot Press, "I was asked by Keiran Allen of The Socialist Workers Party to play after he heard the song 'We Will Rise'. At the end everyone was singing along. It was an amazing experience."
