Cage the Elephant collaborate with Iggy Pop on new version of 'Broken Boy'
Both artists have received recognition from the Recording Academy this year: Iggy Pop will be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award and Cage the Elephant's latest album is nominated for Best Rock Album.
Cage the Elephant have teamed up with Iggy Pop on a new version of 'Broken Boy,' the opening track on 2019 album Social Cues.
Pop takes over a verse and adds some backup vocals, but the rest of the track remains mostly untouched. The punk legend was excited to work with the energetic rockers in Cage the Elephant.
“Cage is a super high energy outfit, living the rock dream, so for a couple of fun minutes I was one of the boys,” Pop said in a statement. “Sounds pretty wicked to me.”
The band were just as excited to work with the Godfather of Punk.
“He’s such a pioneer in so many fields: lyrically, culturally, poetically, visually, musically, and stylistically,” singer Matt Shultz said. “Only a couple times in your life do you have the opportunity to share a moment with a visionary and beautiful human as he is. I’m grateful and blown away to have experienced and witnessed, not just his creativity, but also his kindness, humility, and humanness first hand. Such a testimony to the power of love.”
Both artists are in for a big year at the (extra controversial) Grammy Awards. Social Cues has earned a nomination for Best Rock Album and Iggy Pop will be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
