Bryan Adams shares anti-Trump protest song '51st State'
The song came out on Canada Day, a national holiday observed on July 1.
Bryan Adams has released a protest song, titled '51st State', aimed at US President Donald Trump.
The Canadian singer-songwriter released the track on July 1, coinciding with Canada Day, and appears to respond directly to Trump's repeated remarks about Canada becoming part of the United States.
In the song, Adams sings: "If you wanna take everything / Take our lives, our kids, our women / Then you'd better show some respect / For the 51st state."
Adams debuted the song live during a concert in Canada in May, before officially releasing it this week.
Trump has repeatedly referred to Canada as a potential “51st state” in public remarks and campaign appearances, prompting backlash north of the border. Adam addresses that rhetoric throughout the song, referencing the 49th parallel and framing the track as a defence of Canadian sovereignty and identity.
Rising to international fame in the 1980s, Adams went on to become one of the country’s biggest musical exports with hits including ‘Summer Of ’69’, ‘Run To You’, ‘Heaven’ and ‘(Everything I Do) I Do It For You’. He has also won 20 Juno Awards and a Grammy, and was inducted into both the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.
'51st State' follows Adams’ 2025 album Roll With The Punches, which was released through his own label, Bad Records.
