BIIRD announce UK/Ireland tour
Tickets go on general sale next Monday, November 17 at 10am.
Irish traditional music group BIIRD have announced they will set upon a full length UK and Ireland tour starting in April 2026.
This will be their most extensive headline tour yet, with Irish shows in Limerick, Mayo, Derry, Cavan, Belfast, Killarney, Galway and three Dublin shows, with the final Dublin show being open to all ages. The 11-piece brand previously toured Ireland and the UK last spring and also performed at Derry Girls actress Saorise-Monica Jackson's wedding in August.
BIIRD made their debut on Paddy’s Day 2024, playing in London’s Trafalgar Square to a crowd over 10,000 strong. In an interview with Hot Press, the band commented on the significance of revitialising Irish traditional music.
“Trad was quite outdated and didn’t move with the times,” said frontwoman Lisa Canny. “It was kind of stuck in that 1994 capsule of Riverdance. It was just remaking the same thing over and over again without showing a newer Ireland – and definitely without representing the current musicians.
“Whereas, the actual scene was very underground, in that the best sessions were house parties after a gig, where you’d have 20 of the best musicians playing together in one room. That was the real heart and centre of the tradition, and the best music was coming out of that."
The band will make their North American debut next year as they have plans to open for Ed Sheeran for six shows of his upcoming North American tour.
Tickets for their upcoming UK/Ireland tour go on sale next Monday, November 17 at 10am and can be found here.
