Been Stellar announce debut album Scream From New York, NY

On June 14 from Dirty Hit, Been Stellar will release their debut album Scream From New York, NY.

The lead single on the album, ‘Passing Judgement’ was released today, February 29. Later this month, the band will be heading off on a European tour where they will be supporting the alternative pop band The 1975.

The band consists of members Nico Brunstein on bass, Sam Slocum on vocals, Skyler Knapp on guitar, Laila Wayans on drums and Nando Dale on guitar. The new album captures what life is like for a group of young 20 year olds in New York, an unrelenting and harsh city.

Been Stellar pulls inspiration from groups like Sonic Youth and Interpol to create Scream From New York, NY. ‘Passing Judgement’ is a strong, fast-paced track that comes from the electric feeling the band gets from playing with one another over the years.

“We were finishing “Passing Judgment” in the midst of our first tour in the UK. Playing through it a bit differently each show, we were learning to look at the song from different angles. The recording feels live because of this process — there’s a chaotic feeling in the drums and bass that wouldn’t be there if we hadn’t finished writing it live,” Slocum said. “Lyrically I was thinking about why we judge the world around us, and how passing judgement on someone or something is usually rooted in being unsure in oneself.”

This will not be the first tour that Been Stellar embarks on. They have supported other acts for groups such as Fontaines DC and Shame & Interpol.

The group will be on tour with The 1975 starting March 1 in Paris. They will visit cities such as Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Munich, Atlanta and London before their final show on July 28 in Suffolk at Latitude Festival. Tickets are available here.
