BBC 6 Music names Fontaines DC's Dogrel their Album of the Year
The band have been heavily playlisted by the station throughout 2019.
Dogrel has been named as BBC 6 Music's album of the year for 2019.
BBC 6 Music announced the news this morning and shared this message from the band:
"Most of the album is about our experiences in Dublin – and the songs can sort of be divided between the hopeless and the hopeful – but it’s essentially about the weight of the world that’s pressing against you, and struggling to find a balance, an equilibrium...it would mean a lot to win this title any year really, but this year in particular there have been a lot of really great, substantial bodies of work, and so for that reason we’re particularly chuffed. So thank you 6 Music for all the support."
Introducing the album, 6 Music DJ Steve Lamacq said: "It’s a bit C. S. Lewis to me: like you’ve fallen through the back of a wardrobe and found yourself in this city which has been sketched in charcoal, or illustrated by a selection of slightly bent Polaroids..."
Thanks @bbc6music for calling Dogrel their #1 Album Of The Year & for their support since day one. pic.twitter.com/o60oP6HPRV

The news comes just days after Dogrel was named as Rough Trade's No. 1 Album of the Year.
Hot Press are compiling our own end of year best albums list at the minute. We're staying tight-lipped at the moment, but you can hedge a bet that Dogrel will rank highly...
