Alt-J comments on sampling Miley Cyrus

In an interview with DIY, Alt-J spoke on how the Miley Cyrus sampling 'Hunger of the Pine' came about. It started when the band's drummer Thom Green was working on remixes of some Cyrus tracks while the band was working on their upcoming album This is All Yours. The band picked up on the lyric "I'm a female rebel" and looked to Cyrus for its inclusion in their single.

"...when we had established the boundaries of that song", said Alt-J frontman Joe Newman, "we looked back on the remix because we really liked it, and just that 'I'm a female rebel' [lyric] just came up and I was like, 'I love that line... Can we try using it to see what it sounds like?' Thom was cool with it and then we got in touch with Miley and she was cool with it. For us, it just adds that unexpected element to it."

'Hunger of the Pine' is the first release off of Alt-J's second album This is All Yours, due for a September 22 release. The band will also be paying a visit to Ireland soon, with a performance at the O2 on September 27.
