All About Love
Boston-born, Dublin-based chanteuse and actress Maria Tecce has been making waves around town over the past couple of years with her unique interpretation of jazz classics and self-penned originals.
All About Love, her Irish debut, is essentially the album of her cabaret show as, accompanied by a stellar cast of some of Ireland’s finest jazz players, she tackles a wide range of songs in the supper-club mould.
Ticces’s rich sultry tones and powerful delivery are tailor made for this kind of thing and she effortlessly tackles material such as Rodgers & Hart’s ‘This Can’t Be Love’, Cole Porter’s ‘Love For Sale’ and the Gershwin’s ‘I Loves You Porgy’. A fluent Spanish speaker, she doesn’t shy away from more difficult material like the bossa nova-flavoured ‘Besame Mucho’.
Also included here is her own ‘This Love Is Through’ – a fine song reminiscent of Etta James’ ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’ and an unusual take on Joan Armatrading’s ‘Love By You’. Other highlights include her takes on the spiritual ‘Poor Wayfaring Stranger’ and an unlisted hidden track, ‘Nature Boy’ – making this a very satisfying collection.
