Album Review: Polica - United Crushers
SMART AND SOPHISTICATED SYNTHPOP – FROM MINNESOTA
Justin Vernon of Bon Iver fame calls Polica “the best band I’ve ever heard.” While I wouldn’t put them up there in any pantheon of the greatest acts of all time, they’re certainly one of the most beguiling and innovative groups around right now.
The Minnesotan synthpop crew’s great strength is singer Channy Leaneagh: truly she boasts one of the best voices in modern alt-pop. The electronic pulse of ‘Lime Habit’ is irresistible, making it the obvious choice for a superbly slinky and seductive lead single. Ryan Olson’s production is more assured and vital than before, crafting beautiful synth pop soundscapes of an impeccable standard. They slot right into the currently vibrant synth scene alongside Glasgow’s CHVRCHES: United Crushers should see them win a lot more admirers for their smart and sophisticated pop.
